CCEA nod to 4 more integrated textile parks

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday accorded its approval for enhancing the number of the 26 existing Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITPs) to 30 during the current Tenth Plan period itself, which is scheduled to over by March 31.

An official release issued here said that the additional four parks and the 26 projects sanctioned so far against the 25 approved, would be developed without any change in the existing funding pattern and other parameters.

It might be noted that under the SITPs, Government assistance is provided for infrastructure facilities, among others, including compound wall, roads, drainage, water supply, electricity supply and other related amenities. So far, 26 projects have been sanctioned with an estimated project cost of Rs 2,417 crore, out of which the Government support would be Rs 862.55 crore. The Statewise projection of the SITPs sanctioned include Andhra Pradesh 4, Gujarat 6, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal one each, Maharashtra 6, Rajasthan 2 and Tamil Nadu 5.

The estimated annual production in the 26 sanctioned parks is Rs 19,200 crore and estimated employment generation is 5.29 lakh with the estimated investment in the 26 sanctioned parks being Rs 13,445 crore, out of which, Rs 4,800 crore would be foreign investment.

The Ministry of Textiles officials said the development of additional park would enable additional investment, employment generation and increase in textile production, while all the textile parks would be sanctioned by March. The 30 SITPs would be on stream by 2008-09.
