Madurai Jan 19 The Tamil Nadu Government has issued orders for transfer of a major portion of land to the Electronics Corporation of Tamilnadu (ELCOT) for the construction of information technology park and TIDEL Park in Madurai.

According to the ELCOT Managing Director, Mr C. Umashankar, work would commence as soon as the remaining lands proposed for the construction are transferred.

As of now, 8.81 hectares at Ilandhaikulam near Pandikoil and 16.02 hectares at Kinnimangalam near Madurai Kamaraj University have been transferred.

About one million sq ft of IT space is intended to be created with plug and play facility at the TIDEL Park site. Bookings for the space have started with the major players showing interest to set up their establishments. ELCOT will soon identify the infrastructure requirements for the IT park and submit the recommendations to a high-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary, he mentioned. A private IT Park is also coming up on a 400-acre site in the outskirts of the city, the official sources added.
