Kottayam Jan. 19 Spot rubber showed signs of weakness on Friday. Sharp losses on TOCOM kept the domestic buyers on sidelines putting pressure on the prices. There was no remarkable selling but the market declined on buyer resistance. The trend was mixed and volumes low.

RSS 4 declined to Rs 96.50 from Rs 96.75 a kg at Kottayam. The grade recovered to Rs 97 a kg from Rs 96.50 at Kochi in tune with a late recovery in domestic futures. The buying at lower levels was mainly attributed to supply concerns, sources said.

Futures better

The rubber futures finished better regaining the initial losses on NMCE. The February contract was quoted at Rs 101.09 (Rs 100.53), March at Rs 104 (Rs 103.22), April at Rs 107.30 (Rs 106.45) and May at Rs 110.56 (Rs 109.59) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions totalled 3,242 (2,139) lots and the open interest stood at 9,957 (9,780) lots.

The February contract for RSS 4 finished almost steady at Rs 101.25 a kg (205 tonnes) against Rs 101.21a kg on MCX.

The February futures for RSS 3 fell sharply to 252.2 Yen (Rs 92.18) from 259.7 Yen a kg at TOCOM. But the grade moved up to Rs 94.94 a kg from Rs 93.36 at Bangkok.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 96.50 (96.75); RSS-5: 92.50 (93); ungraded: 87.25 (87.75); ISNR 20: 89 (89) and latex 60 per cent: 64.20 (64.20).
