Gross bank credit up Rs 23,800 cr

Mumbai, Jan. 19 Gross bank credit increased by Rs 23,800 crore and stood at Rs 17,57,479 crore for the fortnight ended January 5, according to Reserve Bank of India's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

The gross bank credit was inclusive of food credit, which rose by Rs 1,454 crore to touch Rs 43,083 crore and non-food credit, which increased by Rs 22,346 crore to Rs 17,14,396 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investment in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper was at Rs 17,94,585 crore.
