Opinion - Letters
Priority lending

This is with reference to "Draft RBI norms on priority lending"(Business Line, January 17).

Though only 4 per cent of the households own more than 10 acres of land, they have the potential to fill the burgeoning gaps between the agro-commodities' demand and supply.

Moreover, they can produce at competitive prices and act as village-hubs in creating a competitive spirit.

To promote small holdings, young, educated on-farm entrepreneurs should get full support from the government.

There is a lot of excitement about corporate farming, but the limiting factor is that only 80 per cent of the households own less than five acres of land.
