Details of the planned acquisition have not been revealed, with the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Rohit Sharma, only stating: "The acquisition plan is still at a nascent stage." The firm is looking at acquiring a game development studio based either in India or abroad. Zapak will also be acquiring a publishing company based in China or Korea. It has tied up with 50 publishers already and expects to broaden its reach with these acquisitions. The Pune development centre will be operational by March, Mr Sharma said. Zapak's announced investment of $100 million in the next three years would be in content (bringing international gaming titles), technology infrastructure (upgrading datacenter) and improving access in B and C class cities. The company expects a surge in the number of gamers, with the market estimated to grow to $424 million by 2010, according to a Nasscom report. It plans to install one lakh gaming seats in the country over the next two years. It will start by setting up 50-seater signature cafes in metros, which will open to the public by April. Zapak has announced an online grandmaster championship for chess gamers. The championship will commence on February 1 and the winner stands to receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
