The one-day meet was jointly hosted by the Madras Management Association (MMA) and Hyderabad Management Association (HMA) with the support of Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Germany.
ADVANTAGES
Pointing out the advantages of PPP, he said it was cost-effective, resulted in higher productivity, had greater flexibility and had better negotiating ability. Mr Gopalakrishna, former Chairman of the A.P. State Financial Corporation, said merging ancient wisdom with modern management techniques was a practical way forward. He quoted the Vedas to substantiate his point. Mr S. Subba Rao, President HMA, in his welcome address too stressed on the increased cooperation within the southern States. Mr D.P. Padmanabhan, MD Eurocon Tiles and Past President, MMA, in his inaugural address stressed the need to work together in today's competitive world. Citing the examples of the e-Choupal and the Reliance Fresh initiative in recent times and the Amul experiment in the past, in bringing farmers into the mainstream economy, he said: "Their effect on development has been electrifying. But we need a lot more of such PPP efforts."
`IMPRESSIVE CONCEPT'
Mr Joerg Wolff, Resident Representative to India, KAF, Germany, said in his special address that PPP as a concept was very appealing. India, he said, needed to hasten the pace of the productivity of its economy though it has come a long way from where it was. He said South India was at the forefront of many of these achievements. Topics such as infrastructure development, social development, private participation in public enterprise, development of rural sector and research and development in the context of PPP were also discussed at length by various speakers from different fields at the meet.
