Strategy Titan plans new brand in prescription eyewear biz Archana Venkat
Market knowledge
Titan is present in the eyewear market through its `Fastrack' range of sunglasses and frames. "This knowledge of the eyewear market has helped us enter the prescription eyewear segment," said Mr Bhat, on the sidelines of `Advertising's Future Shock', a two-day seminar on advertising organised by the Advertising Club Madras. Mr Bhat said a new brand would be launched to cater to the prescription eyewear business but declined to name it. The company would not partner with other companies in the optical business for this venture, he said. "We will make the glasses, frames and lenses ourselves," he added. Early last year, a source in the company was quoted in a media report saying, "We propose to enter into commercial arrangements with respect to prescription eyewear retailing." The company also notified the stock exchanges of its proposal to start this new business. Mr Bhat said it was premature to share details about the investment involved in the new brand.
