Airtel eyes WiMAX space

Bharti Airtel is evaluating options to enter the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) (WiMAX) space. When contacted, the company issued a statement saying, "We are watching the technological developments in the WiMAX space. We believe WiMAX will have a life once it is standardised".

Sources in the company indicated that a proposal for WiMAX rollout was in the discussion stage. A senior official of the company told Business Line at a recent conference that the company had plans to roll out 600 WiMAX outlets over the next 18 months in rural India.
