New Delhi Jan. 22 The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on Monday asked members of the Opposition to make better use of their time by emulating the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, who budgeted time productively when he was not in power.

"I think those who are now in the Opposition should learn from the way Mr Chidambaram handled spare time on his hands and make better use of their time,'' Mr Singh said while releasing a book written by the Finance Minister here.

Mr Singh hoped the book — A View from Outside — Why Good Economics Works for Everyone — receives a wide readership.

The book is a collection of columns written by Mr Chidambaram and reflects his views on a range of issues.

This collection covers subjects such as agriculture, reforms, budgets, forex reserves, economic growth and tax policies.

It also offers perceptive political analysis and some telling comments on social issues.

Far more than mere reactions to developments during that period, Mr Chidambaram provides the reader with a clear understanding of the problems underlying the Indian economy — its politics and ways of solving them.
