Maharashtra Govt eases wheat storage limits

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Jan. 23

Taking note of a bumper rabi wheat crop, the Maharashtra Government on Tuesday eased storage limits on wholesalers imposed under the Essential Commodities Act early September. Wheat wholesalers can now store up to 300 tonnes in urban and rural centres against the previous limit of 150 tonnes for urban and 500 quintals in rural areas, said a Government notification. Similarly, retailers' stock limit has been doubled to 10 tonnes, while flour mills can stock up to 30 days against the previous limit of 10 days. The stock limit on pulses was hiked to 300 tonnes from the earlier limit of 200 tonnes for wholesalers in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur and 100 tonnes in the rest of Maharashtra. The retailers' stock limit for pulses has now been fixed at 10 tonnes.
