Kolkata Jan. 24 Cartridge World, the global leader in printer cartridge refilling and recycling services, hopes to have in place 250 retail outlets across India within the next three years.

The company, which opened its first store in Mumbai in October last year, hopes to generate a turnover of Rs 500 crore from the Indian market within the next three years, according to Mr Naveen Rakhecha, CEO, Cartridge World, South East Asia.

The $350-million turnover Cartridge World has around 1,500 retailers across the globe even as its ink manufacturing facility is located in Germany. The company also has a toner and toner parts manufacturing facility in the US. Speaking to Business Line while on visit to the city to oversee the setting up of its third store in India — and the first outside of Mumbai — here, Mr Rakhecha said the company would take the franchisee route for its retail rollout plans in the country. The setting up of each retail franchisee store would entail an investment of Rs 25 lakh.

According to him, the inkjet segment accounts for 65 per cent of the cartridge market in India with the remaining 35 per cent comprising laser cartridges. The size of the Indian market for inkjet and laser cartridges has been pegged at Rs 2,000 crore in 2006-07 and the same is stated to be growing at 40 per cent per annum.
