The show, being organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), aims at providing a business and sourcing platform for buyers and sellers from around the world in food and hospitality sectors to forge new trade links.

"About 50-55 exhibitors from India, including 30-35 from private sectors, would participate in Gulfood 2007 compared to a total of 25 Indian companies last year," said Ms Joanne Cook, Exhibition Manager, DWTC.

About 2,200 companies from over 70 countries are expected to take part this year.

Speaking on the occasion, the APEDA Secretary, Mr R.P. Gautam said, "total export of APEDA-monitored products stood at Rs 17,918 crore in 2005-06, of which, Rs 5,000 crore was to the West Asian countries."

Besides APEDA, the other major participants from India are the Tea Board, Spice Board, Coffee Board, Kohinoor Foods, KRBL, Sara Spices, Little Bee Impex and Parle Products.
