New Delhi Jan. 24 The Department of Information and Technology on Wednesday launched free software tools and fonts in regional languages.

This includes Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi and Urdu languages.

The regional language compact discs would contain features such as typing, spell check, bilingual dictionary, language tutor package amongst others.

The compact disc would also facilitate transliteration that would transcribe one text into a particular language. The software tools and fonts are being made available by downloading it from the Web site www.ildc.in and www.ildc.gov.in.
