Tiruchi Jan. 25 The Welding Research Institute of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd is contemplating joint research works in advanced welding technologies with Paton Welding Institute, Ukraine, according to the Senior Deputy General Manager of the Welding Research Institute, BHEL, Dr S. Manoharan.

Speaking on the `research experiences at Paton Welding Institute' here recently, Dr Manoharan said the joint research would focus on techniques such as magnetically impelled arc butt welding, which is a new solid state welding process that takes just two to five seconds.

This technique would find good use in the country, he said. The welding simulators for training is eco-friendly, cost-effective and will reduce wastage of power, material, consumables and so on. Dr Manoharan said the new technologies would help Indian industries to enhance quality as well as productivity.
