Human Resources States - Tamil Nadu Global Adjustments plans services in Hyderabad, Pune Archana Venkat
As part of its expansion, the company is broadening its range of services for expat clients.
According to Mr Rajeshwar Balasundaram, Chief Operating Officer, Hyderabad and Pune are cities with a growing expatriate population. "We want to have a local presence in each city with a significant expat population. We believe this market (expat services) is underserved and there is room for growth across India," he told Business Line. With offices in Chennai, Bangalore and Gurgaon, Global Adjustments provides services that help expats settle in India. This includes an orientation of the city, help in finding an appropriate home, settling-in services such as a phone connection, transport and other utilities, besides a helpline that is available throughout their stay in India. Similar services are provided for Indian professionals visiting foreign countries. As part of its expansion, the company is broadening its range of services for expat clients. "We plan to offer some of our standalone services such as cross-cultural services and event management services to them," said Mr Balasundaram. The company is also fine-tuning its existing training programmes. "Until recently, our courses were biased heavily towards western etiquette and communication. We are now reorienting these courses to deal with cross-cultural issues in countries across the globe," he said. It has developed training programmes that differentiate between seemingly similar cultures. For instance, neighbouring countries in Europe such as France and Germany or those in Asia such as China, India and Korea, tend to be seen as culturally same. The company is developing modules that will focus distinctly on each country, its culture and etiquette, said Mr Balasundaram. The company is also designing a cross-cultural adaptability programme for an international mobility services industry body, he said. Over a decade, Global Adjustments has worked with over 70 clients in the technology, finance and manufacturing sectors besides working with diplomatic missions.
