Hyderabad Jan. 25 To facilitate faster and more accurate diagnosis of any disease, a 16- Channel, 1.5-tonne high definition-extended (HDx) MRI scanning system with motion correction system was inaugurated today in Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad.

The GE make system, costing over Rs 5 crore, was inaugurated by Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Revenue.

Dr Vijaya Bhaskar, Director, Radiology service, Yashoda Hospital, told Business Line: "This 16 Channel system is fitted with special hardware and software for higher resolution imaging (specially oncology\cancer cases) which gives better clarity and is much more faster than the earlier 4,8 Channel MRI systems.

For instance, if for a particular sequence (study), the 4,8 channel MRI took 5-6 minutes, then for the same sequence, the 16-Channel MRI system will take only 2-3 minutes with doubled or even quadrupled clarity."

The HDx MRI captures what could not be captured earlier with perfection in demanding clinical situations such as 2D and 3D imaging. The system is basically designed to create HDx MR image through a synergy between clinical applications and technology.

It can capture images of patients with reconstructions up to 2,700 images per second, according to a hospital press release.
