Jurong to build science city in Anantapur

Hyderabad Jan. 25 A multi-national consortium comprising Jurong International Group of Singapore will construct Odyssey Science City in the drought-hit Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

The science city, which would be a few hours away from Bangalore international airport, will have latest infrastructure facilities to support a variety of industries and research establishments that would come up at the site. "We are going to spend $25 billion in 10 years," Mr Rao Munukutla, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jurong Infrastructure (India) Pvt Ltd, said.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the science city would house hi-tech manufacturing, IT, biotech, bio-pharma and artificial intelligence industries. The consortium also included Springfield Land Corp and Macquarie Bank (both from Australia), and Semb Corp Industries (Singapore).

Earlier, Mr Bob Sharpless, Managing Director of Springfield Land Corp, and Mr K.R.K. Reddy, Additional Secretary (Industries Dept, Govt of AP), signed an agreement with regard to establishing the science city. Mr Bob said the project would provide direct employment to 15 lakh people and indirect employment to 10 lakh people. Land owners will be made stakeholders in the project.
