Events States - Karnataka Karnataka Govt sanctions Rs 5 cr for temples renovation Our Bureau
Of this, Rs 2 crore will be released by the end of the current financial year. Mr Shetty was speaking after unfurling the national flag at the Republic Day celebrations in Mangalore on Friday. The Government has prepared an action plan to identify and remove encroachment of lands belonging to the Department of Religious Endowment in the State, he said. The Government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore grants to 384 members, who went on `Kailas Manasarovar yatra'. To boost animal husbandry activities in the State, the Government is planning to open fodder banks. It is contemplating bearing the expenses of the fodder banks from temples that generate good revenues, he said. The Government is also planning to introduce medical insurance scheme for priests in temples, he said. Referring to the `Matsyashraya' scheme of the Karnataka Government, Mr Shetty said that a subsidy of Rs 97.80 lakh has been disbursed to 326 families of fishermen for construction of houses. Under the scheme, the Government is planning to construct 10,000 houses. On the Mangalore Special Economic Zone project, he said work is in progress for acquiring land in Bajpe, Permude and Kalavar villages.
