New Products & Services Amrut Distilleries launches new premium brandy Our Bureau
Positioning the brandy as a premium variety, the company announced the launch of Bejois Napolean Brandy. The brandy is distilled from the traditional Bangalore Blue and French Uniblanc varieties of grape grown in its farms in Thally near Hosur. "The product is 100 per cent natural and does not contain any artificial flavours," said Mr Rakshit N. Jagdale Executive Director of Amrut Distilleries. One of the oldest distilleries in the country, the Bangalore-based company also makes a suit of Indian-made foreign liquors such as MaQintosh Premium Whisky, MaQ Scotch Whisky, Old Port Rum. The company had a sales turnover of Rs 120 crore last year with its market predominantly in the Defence canteens and a small proportion in the retail sector. Mr V. Ravindran said initially the Bejois Napolean Brandy would be marketed in Karnataka, where the annual premium brandy market size was 2.5 lakh cases. Amrut plans to garner five per cent of the market and has already launched its marketing strategies. The company plans to garner a five per cent share in the 2.5- lakh cases per annum market in Karnataka. Amrut Distilleries has successfully launched the first Indian Single Malt Whisky in Glasgow, Scotland, two years ago in 2004. Selling at £21-25 per bottle, the product has earned a space in the traditional stronghold of the native brands, Mr Jagdale said, adding his company was planning to tap the market in Canada and the US.
