Mumbai, Jan. 26

In the context of rising importance of foodgrains for the growing Indian economy and creeping shortages, a two-day workshop on Wheat Management Rabi 2007 organised jointly by Roller Flour Mills Federation of India and Wheat Products Promotion Society will be held in New Delhi during March 7-8.

Amongst various essential food products, wheat has emerged as a critical grain for the country. From an exporter status until 2002, India has turned into a major importer of wheat because domestic output has failed to keep pace with rising demand. Tightening supplies and rising prices are seen hurting consumer interest. minimum support price, procurement by government parastatals, role of private sector, import policy, adequate raw material for roller flour mills, quality parameters and finances are some of the major issues that the industry and trade are trying to grapple with.

The seminar will have expert speakers examine these and other relevant issues in-depth. The topics covered would include management of logistics, quality, nutrition security and price risk. Millers, bakers, traders, financial institutions, trade intermediaries as also logistics and other service providers are likely participants.
