Increase in offers at Kochi tea auction

In contrast to the trend in other south Indian auction centres, Kochi tea auction witnessed a 20,000 kg increase in dust tea on offer.

Good general demand steadied the value of high priced CTC varieties, while medium and other CTC were steady to dearer at Rs 2 to 4. Price of orthodox high grown varieties eased, while medium orthodox remained steady. Major tea packers were active in good medium CTC. Domestic market players were also active.

Best CTC dust was quoted at Rs 67-76, medium CTC ranged at Rs 55-64, while below medium was at Rs 48-53. High grown BOPD varieties fetched Rs 90-110, medium BOPD was at Rs 48-54 and secondaries ranged at Rs 39-42.

Leaf Sale

In line with other auction centres, the quantity on offer at the leaf auction fell to 3,48,000 kg. High grown orthodox whole leaf grades were quoted higher. High grown broken varieties and fannings were steady to dearer as buyers chased quality. Medium orthodox remained barely steady.

Medium secondaries witnessed less demand. High priced CTC eased by Re 1 to Rs 2.

Medium CTC smaller brokens and fannings remained steady to dearer. High grown orthodox varieties witnessed good demand from exporters and to CIS countries. Iraq exporters were not active in the market.

Best Nilgiri varieties commanded Rs 85-115, while medium orthodox ranged between Rs 45-70. Best CTC leaf varieties fetched Rs 53-58, medium CTC fetched Rs 49-54.

Top Prices

Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price in the dust segment at Rs 110, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 90, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 89 and Pasuparai RD at Rs 81. In the leaf segment, Havukal OP fetched the top price at Rs 172, followed by Glendale FOP at Rs 152, Chamraj FOP at Rs 151 and Havukal FOP at Rs 142.
