Madurai Jan. 29 The Virginia-based digiBlitz Technologies Inc — a $2-million software solutions and services company in the small and medium enterprise sector — launched its Offshore Development Centre (ODC) in the city recently.

The company, which is a Microsoft and Oracle Certified Partner, has an ISO-Certified centre in Chennai and caters to many Fortune 500 clients such as ABB, Ericsson and IBM. It is currently engaged in developing software products for North American and European markets, according to Mr Praful Mayekar, Account Director, digiBlitz Technologies.

Madurai is gaining in attention as an emerging destination among tier-II cities, given its potential and skill levels for IT and ITES-enabled activities. Many from Madurai work in the metros.

According to a Nasscom study, despite gaining knowledge, a good percentage are still forced to seek employment in other industries. While the attraction is their level of compliance, productivity and low attrition, the challenge is their industry preparedness.

The launch of the operations is to fill this gap, while continuing to work as an offshore company, said Mr Mayekar, while addressing a press meet.

Moulding candidates

The company is mainly seeking-out engineering and MCA graduates. It plans to coordinate with educational institutions in the region and help them to understand working in software companies and in the domain of software product development such as enterprise application integration.

With risk management emerging as the next business wave, security has become a key issue. Given that Basel II norms for banks are coming into force, the opportunities are more.

Employees would also be absorbed into the company when it expands, Mr Mayekar said.
