A FARMER STEERS a herd of ducklings through the backwaters of Kuttanadu in Kerala. Kuttanadu, the granary of Kerala that lies below the sea level, is famous for its vast expanse of lakes such as Vembanadu.

Following shrinkage of the lake area due to human intervention, it was included in the National Lake Conservation Programme but nothing has been done to reverse the trend so far.
