Retailing States - Andhra Pradesh Sonata opens showroom in Vizag Our Bureau
He was speaking at a press meet here on Monday after the inauguration of the first Sonata showroom in the State. He said the Sonata brand, selling in the range of Rs 395 to Rs 1,295, was being sold through a network of 10,000 dealers. "We have a market share of 15 per cent and the market is of Rs 2,000-2,200 crore per annum. However, the unorganised market is also of a much bigger size," he said.
Check on duplicates
Mr Srinivasan said the company would set up more showrooms in the State and "we are also concentrating on curbing duplicate watch-making. We have lodged complaints and got 31 persons arrested for selling duplicates of Sonata watches."
Rural markets
He said the outlet here would showcase 500 watch models, including the latest collection of gold and steel-plated ones for mengents and women. The company had on the whole 650 models. "We want to penetrate the rural markets too, with innovative initiatives such as mobile vans and other non-traditional distribution channels," he added. Mr Bhanuprasad, a franchisee, said that the opening of the showroom would boost the sales and the local customers could have access to the wide range of Sonata watches.
