Sun Micro expanding in tier II cities

Chennai Jan. 30 US-based Sun Microsystems is expanding its presence in India's tier II and III cities. It has identified 18 such cities for entry with the help of its partner network, according Mr Rajesh Rege, Director, Sales, Sun Microsystems India.

The cities identified include Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Dehradun, Guwahati, Goa, Indore, Bhopal, Ranchi, Jammu and Nagpur, he told newspersons.

According to Mr Baba Sam, Marketing Director, Sun Microsystems India, the country's IT industry (such aspersonal computers and printers) was valued at around $7 billion. Of this, $2.2 billion was outside the metropolitan cities of Bangalore and Hyderabad. Sun's addressable market in these cities was around $200 million.
