Pacific Internet Ltd, an independent Internet service provider in the Asia-Pacific region, on Tuesday entered the voice carrier market in the country with the launch of PacNet Vocal, an IP telephony service targeted at business and residential customers.

PacNet Vocal enables companies to deploy reliable voice services in a cost-effective and rapidly scalable manner, which helps address some of the challenges that small and medium businesses (SMB) face, said Mr Raj Metrani, Managing Director, Pacific Internet India. Calls would be charged at Re 1 per minute to the most-called destinations such as the US, UK, and Singapore, among other countries. The company is looking at a potential market-size of one billion-plus minutesThe company would also be focussing on the franchise, retail, manufacturing and call centre segments.
