Milk dearer in AP coastal towns

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam, Jan. 30

Milk is becoming dearer in the coastal districts, with the two major co-operative dairies (Vijaya Dairy at Vijayawada and Visakha Dairy at Visakhapatnam) increasing the retail price by Re 1 to Rs 2 per litre, citing the increase in procurement price for the hike.

The hike came into effect on January 16, immediately after Sankranti, in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godavari, the districts, which are supplied milk by the Visakha Co-op Dairy. It would come into in Vijayawada on February 1. Following the hike effected by the two major co-op dairies, several private dairies are also increasing the retail price. Though the retail price has gone up by Rs 2 a litre, only half of it is being passed on to the farmer by the two dairies.
