APSRTC makes Rs 103-cr profit

Hyderabad Jan. 30 After passing through a bad patch for years, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has registered a profit of Rs 103 crore during the nine-month period ended December 31, 2006 as against a loss of Rs 43 crore in 2005-06.

The corporation had carried 343 crore passengers during the period as against 238 crore in 2005-06. The total traffic income for the period was put at Rs 2,736 crore as against the income of Rs 3,198 crore in 2005-06.

The earnings per kilometre was Rs 14.94 up to December 31, 2006 as against Rs 13.41 in 2005-06.

PLEA FOR REIMBURSEMENT

Discussing the performance with the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Mr V. Dinesh Reddy, requested the State Government to reimburse a sum of Rs 405 crore for the corporation towards concessions given by the government to different categories of passengers.
