Luxury taxi service in Bangalore

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Jan. 31

Logistics company Root Logistics is to launch a luxury taxi service in Bangalore. To be kicked off from February 5, the `Green Transit' service claims to offer a "safe and comfortable" journey to passengers.

For the safety of passengers, Green Transit cars (Tata Indigo) will be fitted with GPS (global positioning satellite), which will track vehicles wherever they go and continuously monitor drivers. Other facilities include air-conditioning, electronic metering, emergency alert alarm, music channels, video screen, mineral water and magazines.

Green Transit has tied up with Tata Motors for vehicles, Pulsar Inc of the US for electronic meters, Arvind Telecom for GPS and Airtel for communication connectivity. The spate of crimes in the city prompted us to start such a service, said Mr C. Muralikrishnan, CEO, Roots Logistics.

The company will operate five cars to start with and ramp up the fleet with 45 additional cars in three months. The tariff is Rs 50-70 for the first 4 km and thereon it will cost Rs 12-18 per km. "We also hope to launch this service in Chennai and Hyderabad in five months," he said.
