Mangalore Jan. 31 The telecom sector will play a major role in achieving financial inclusion in banking industry, according to Mr B. Sambamurthy, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank.

Releasing Dakshina Kannada Telecom District's telephone directory for 2006-07 in Mangalore on Wednesday, he said banking and telecom sectors arecoming closer. While banks took decades to penetrate in rural areas, telecom sector did it in years.

In such a situation, the telecom sector will play a major role in achieving inclusive growth in rural areas.

Terming banking and telecom sectors as business associates in the present environment, he said these two sectors are closely integrated to provide various services. There should be an integration of two to three industries to provide service in the competitive environment, he said.

He also highlighted the role played by the telecom sector in furthering tele-banking, mobile-banking, core banking and other such services in the industry.

Mr T.N. Sudheendra Kumar, Principal General Manager of Dakshina Kannada Telecom District, said that the CD version of the directory would be released by March.

It will include telephone entries corrected up to February.

The printed version of the directory contains entries corrected up to November. Information about various tariff structures has been provided in the new directory, he said.
