Kochi Jan. 31 The Spices Board will set up a quality evaluation laboratory of international standard at Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. This is aimed at taking care of the quality requirements for chillies in that State, which contributes 60 per cent of the country's total production.

The Union Minister for Commerce, Mr Jairam Ramesh, will lay the foundation for the laboratory at the old market yard in Guntur on February 3.

The laboratory to be manned by qualified scientists would be equipped with modern scientific gadgets to take care of the quality parameters required for exportof chillies to different international markets.

The Minister will also inaugurate the chilli poly house drier on the same day at a separate function at Nadendla village outside Guntur, an official press release here said.
