New Delhi Feb. 1 A joint venture between Taiwan-based construction firm Continental Engineering Corporation and Soma Enterprise has bagged a contract worth Rs 813.51 crore from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for the construction and designing of tunnel and stations under the second phase metro project.

CEC has 70 per cent share in the Rs 813.51 crore project, while Soma has a 30 per cent share.

The contract includes design and construction of 4,014 metres of tunnel and four stations (each 318 metre long) within a 40-month period.

CEC is the technical leader in the partnership and both would pool in resources in equipment and people, Soma Enterprise Director, Mr Ankineedu Maganti, said.

The joint venture has appointed two design consultants — China Engineering Consultants from Taiwan and Tandon Consultants from India — for the project.

"We would import four tunnel boring machines from Germany and Japan for the project," Mr P.C. Tseng, Assistant Vice- President, Overseas Department, Continental Engineering, said.

The agreement for the project, with a construction period of 40 months, was signed on Monday and is likely to begin in February.
