Foreign Relations Industry & Economy - Foreign Trade States - Tamil Nadu Japan-India `friendship year' events inaugurated Our Bureau
He was speaking at the inauguration of the events commemorating the Japan-India Friendship Year. He said that the Governments of the two countries have started talks at various levels. The negotiations for the bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement will start on Thursday in Delhi, the Consul General said. The Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, Mr L.K. Tripathy, the Chief Guest at the function, expressed hope that there would be some Japanese funding for the Hogenakkal water supply project. He said that Japan and India could jointly work in the IT and automobile sectors. Japan's cluster approach, which has proved to be a success, could well be emulated. He said the Government is working on a policy to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Mr N. Krishnaswami, Secretary General of the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, said that the Chamber has planned a series of programmes on IT, SMEs, manufacturing competitiveness, agriculture, energy and defence through the year.
