New Delhi Feb. 2 To take advantage of the cheaper labour available in India, the Delhi based Punj Lloyd plans to shift its engineering work from the UK and the West Asia to the home country. "We are getting aggressive in the engineering market now. Because of the huge labour cost arbitrage, we are outsourcing our in-house engineering work to India," said Mr Luv Chhabra, Director, Corporate Affairs, Punj Lloyd.

For the company to achieve this, it plans to increase the headcount of the engineers in India. "We are looking to take our total number of engineers to 700-800 by March next year from the existing 150," he said. It also intends to increase it by 400-500 every year from thereon, added Mr Chhabra.

The company is eyeing a two-year time frame for the execution of its order backlog, which currently stands at Rs 14,000 crore.
