Bangalore Feb. 3 CAE is in talks with a few Indian companies to partner its $20 million aviation training centre being set up near the Bangalore International airport.

The CAE Group President, Mr Jeff Roberts, told newspersons that the centre, expected to be operational by the end of this year, will train about 1,000 pilots annually. A joint collaboration of CAE and Airbus, it will provide pilot, cabin crew and maintenance training as well as flight operations support on the Airbus 320 and the Boeing 737.

Mr Roberts said with over 400 more aircraft expected to be delivered over the next five years, another 1,000 pilots will be required to fly these plans. Indian operators already fly around 200 aircraft currently. He said pilots with some years of experience will be offered 30-day training and it could cost between $20,000 and $30,000.

For fresh candidates, the fee could range between $75,000 and $1,00,000 for a 14-month training.

He said though there may not be any tangible savings for domestic airlines whose pilots will be trained in India rather than abroad, there could be productivity gains as the travel time will be lesser.
