Bajaj Auto to introduce new bike platform

Pune Feb. 3 With increasing sales of Bajaj Discover and Bajaj Pulsar DTS-I platform products only 45 per cent of Bajaj motorcycle sales now come from the relatively lower margin 100cc segment. An official communication has noted that in order to exit this segment, Bajaj Auto Ltd intends to introduce a new motorcycle platform

Towards this end, Bajaj has now finalised product design and specification, and has scheduled pre-mass production trials in financial year 2008. Simultaneously, BAL will commence motorcycle production at its new plant at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand on April 9, intending to ramp up to the rate of one million per year within FY08.

It said that motorcycles sales for January was 1,95,560 compared to 1,73,835 for the corresponding period last year, recording a growth rate of 12 per cent. The total two wheelers sales for January stood at 1,97,553 compared to 1,81,758, an increase of nine per cent. In the three wheelers' category, it was 32,030 vehicles compared to 22,019, an increase of 45 per cent. Total two and three wheelers sales stood a 229,583 against 203,777, registering an increase of 13 per cent.
