Mr Deo told Business Line that the size of the Indian market for low-calorie sweeteners has been pegged at Rs 100 crore "at the MRP level". However, on company-turnover basis, it has been pegged at Rs 70 crore. Cadila accounts for nearly 75 per cent of the Indian market for low-calorie sweeteners.
Franchisees
According to him, the Indian market for low-calorie sweeteners was growing at 22 per cent per annum. This has been attributed to, among other things, growing incidence of diabetes and consumers' preferences for a healthy, low-calorie sugar alternative. Cadila's Consumer Products Division's expected turnover was Rs 123 crore. Mr Deo said while the proposed Sugar Free boutique in Kolkata would be owned by the company, the rest would be rolled out in franchisee mode.
