Tourism States - Kerala Kerala plans meet on responsible tourism Our Bureau
Announcing this at a news conference, Tourism Minister Mr Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the event would begin on September 21. The three-day conference is being organised by Kerala Tourism in partnership with the UK-based International Center for Responsible Tourism (ICRT) and ICRT-India. Dr Harold Goodwin, Director, ICRT and Professor of Responsible Tourism Management, Leeds Metropolitan University, UK said that the first international conference on responsible tourism in destinations was held in Cape Town in 2002. Organised as a side event preceding the World Summit on Sustainable Development, the conference resulted in the `Cape Town Declaration on Responsible Tourism in Destinations.' Earlier, the Minister announced that the State Government would create a system to co-ordinate the activities of various Government Departments in tourism destinations. Similarly, a system to unify the activities of the various District Tourism Promotion Councils in Kerala would be set up, he added.
