Water States - Andhra Pradesh Polavaram project work to resume soon: CM Our Bureau
The work on the project was stalled a year ago, as the AP High Court issued a stay. He was speaking at a press meet here on Sunday evening after a day-long review of the development works in the West Godavari district. The Chief Minister said that the Union Government would give all the required clearances within a month or so and the work on the project, stalled a year ago for want of clearances, would be resumed. He said efforts would be made to address the concerns of the neighbouring States, Orissa and Chattisgarh, on the project. They would be persuaded by taking up a Rs. 700-crore scheme for strengthening the embankments along the river course in those States so that there would not be any submersion due to breaches. He said the Rs 55-crore Godavari delta modernisation project would also be undertaken soon and the tenders would be called for the project on Feb. 9. The Chief Minister also promised that a horticulture university would be set up at Tadepalligudem in the district and it would start functioning in the next financial year.
