Chennai Feb. 5 Welcoming the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's award, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, on Monday said the State had received justice, for which it had been waiting for long.

The award is of consolation to him and it would make him happy if the people of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka cooperate and accept the decision, he told a press conference here.

The award had been made possible thanks to the efforts of the then Prime Minister, Mr V.P. Singh, who constituted the tribunal. "I express gratitude to him on behalf of the farmers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka," he said.

The award comes 38 years after he met with the ministers of Karnataka in 1968, when he was the PWD Minister in Tamil Nadu. Since then he had also met 5-6 Union ministers. However, the award could not be attributed to him alone, Mr Karunanidhi said.
