Mangalore Feb. 5 Mr Subir Raha, former Chairman and Managing Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd, will be presented with the honorary membership of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in Mangalore on February 10.

Mr Raha will be the third person to get the honorary membership of the chamber.

Mr Austen J. Tauro, former Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation, will deliver the felicitation address on the occasion, and Mr Raha will speak on the theme topic - `Mangalore as the hydrocarbon hub of India'.

It may be mentioned here that Mr Raha was instrumental in the takeover of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) from the Aditya Birla Group in 2003.

It was during his tenure at ONGC, the public sector company decided to invest a huge amount in the petrochemical component of the Mangalore special economic zone. Following this, ONGC, KCCI and the Karnataka Government signed a memorandum of understanding in Mangalore on August 30, 2004.

Till now, KCCI has awarded honorary memberships to Dr Ramdas Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University (formerly Manipal Academy of Higher Education), and Mr P.P. Prabhu, former Union Commerce Secretary.
