Farm credit surges to Rs 1,80,486 cr

New Delhi Feb. 5 Agriculture credit flow during 2005-06 has surged to Rs 1,80,486 crore, reflecting 128 per cent of the target of Rs 1,41,000 crore that was set for that year.

The final figures of Rs 1,80,486 crore for 2005-06 is substantially higher than the earlier estimated provisional figure of Rs 1,67,775 crore, official sources said.

For the fiscal year 2006-07, agriculture credit up to December 2006 stood at Rs 1,49,343 crore. This represented a 25.4 per cent increase over the achievement of Rs 1,19,115 crore recorded in the same nine-month period in the previous year.

For the April-December 2006, agriculture credit flow from public sector banks grew by 25.9 per cent to Rs 86,865 crore (Rs 68,991 crore), from private sector banks by 40.9 per cent to Rs 14,134 crore (Rs 10,031 crore), from cooperative banks by 14.6 per cent to Rs 33,174 crore (Rs 28,947 crore) and from regional rural banks by 25.4 per cent to Rs 15,170 crore (Rs 11,146 crore).

Agriculture credit flow target for 2006-07 has been pegged at Rs 1,75,000 crore.
