Thiruvananthapuram Feb 5 The Cauvery Tribunal's verdict on the inter-State river water dispute is disappointing, according to the State Water Resources Minister, Mr N.K. Premachandran.

He said that the Kerala Government had demanded 99.8 TMC feet of water, which was its "due share." But the tribunal has awarded only 30 TMC feet.

The Minister said that a Fact Finding Committee constituted in 1972 had found that Kerala was entitled to 35 TMC feet. The assessors' report of the Cauvery Tribunal had put the State's share at 33.4 TMC feet.

The basis on which the tribunal awarded only 30 TMC feet without taking into account the opinion of experts would be known only after getting the full text of the verdict, he added.

The Minister also said that the State required 30 TMC feet for the Kerala Bhavani and Mananthavadi projects alone.

Kerala has not been given its share in proportion to its contribution to the Cauvery and its water requirement, he added.

The Government would decide on future course of action to protect the interests of the State after getting a copy of the verdict, the Minister said.
