Mumbai Feb. 5 HSBC Investments launched HSBC Unique Opportunities Fund, a three-year close-ended fund which aims to invest in companies facing `out of ordinary' conditions, with the potential for long-term capital growth.

The fund would invest in companies with growth potential but which is either temporarily under-valued or likely to benefit from conditions such as financial restructuring, mergers and acquisitions. The out-of-ordinary conditions could mean that the companies are in out of favour industries or sectors, are facing employee/management buyouts, among others.

"As India witnesses strong economic growth and increased corporate activity, we believe there can be visible opportunities to profit from `out-of-ordinary' situations," said Mr Sanjay Prakash, CEO of HSBC Investments.

The new fund opened on February 2 and will close on February 22. The minimum investment amount is Rs 10,000. The fund will convert into an open-ended fund at the end of three years.
