Kolkata Feb. 5 The Chairman of Tata Sons, Mr Ratan Tata, has said that the proposed small car plant of Tata Motors in Singur would come up as scheduled and the cars would roll out of the plant by 2008.

Mr Tata made these comments after a meeting with the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, here today.

Mr Tata was accompanied by Mr R.K. Krishnakumar, Director of Tata Sons. The Chief Minister and Mr Tata discussed the proposed Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital at Rajarhat, Kolkata, and the automobile plant in Singur.

Work on the construction of the 150-bed Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, that is spread over 16 acres of land, has commenced. The Tata Group will invest Rs 75 crore in the first phase of the project.

Commenting on his meeting with Mr Bhattacharjee, Mr Tata said: "we are committed to the well being and progress of the people of West Bengal. The proposed hospital will serve the people in the State and the region."

Mr Tata expressed his sincere commitment to the economic development of the State, which he believed, would benefit all sections of the people of West Bengal.
