Investing pension funds in equity

"EPF: why investing in equity makes sense" (Business Line, February 4) makes out a valid case for alternative options into which the Employee Provident Fund resources can be put.

How long can we go on with the old mindset, eating into the capital? It is hoped the EPFO will see reason and agree to the suggestion of investing at least 5 per cent of total corpus in equities.

Of course, care has to be taken against risks and scams, etc., and an expert team will have to be appointed to look after such investments. But if PSUs such as LIC can do it successfully, why cannot the EPFO?
