Nagaland's annual plan for 2007-08 has been determined at Rs 900 crore here on Wednesday at a meeting between the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the State Chief Minster, Mr Neiphiu Rio.
In his preliminary remarks, Mr Ahluwalia lauded the State for logging high growth rate especially in agriculture and education, besides efforts to promote bio-diversity, conservation and empowering village development committees. It was pointed out that more districts of the State would be covered under National Rural Employment Guarantee Programmes and the State was asked to pay more attention to programmes under Bharat Nirman. The Chief Minister stated that the policies followed over the last few years have helped in accelerating growth.
He said the State's gross domestic product has been growing at an average of 11.2 per cent with a primary sector growth of 15 per cent and secondary sector at 13.2 per cent. The per capita income of the State is slightly over Rs 21,000.
He said the State would be aiming at a growth rate of 14 per cent for the 11th Plan period.
Besides agriculture, focus would be on marketing, processing and technology intervention.
