UGC's Professor Emeritus of Political Science Satyabrata Rai Chowdhuri has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, Britain's highest society relating to Asian studies.

The election of Prof. Rai Chowdhuri, also a Fellow of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies at the University of London, was declared at the Society's recent Council meeting, a release said here on Tuesday.

The Royal Asiatic Society, patronised by Prince Charles, was established in 1824 to investigate subjects related to and for the encouragement of science and arts in relation to Asia.
