MMA meet to focus on global leadership

Chennai Feb. 6 The Madras Management Association's (MMA) annual convention this year is all set to focus on global leadership.

Announcing this at a media gathering in Chennai today, Mr C.K. Ranganathan, President, MMA and CMD of CavinKare Pvt Ltd, said the convention is aptly titled as `Global Leadership: India Can Do It'.

"With the blissful news of Indian companies achieving path-breaking success in conquering business beyond boundaries, we would say the day is not far away to make our country a world super power," he said.

The event, scheduled for February 16 and 17 in Chennai, is to be sponsored by QuestNet India, part of the Hong Kong-based QI Group, and co-sponsored by companies such as CavinKare, Sanmar Group and TCS.

Commenting on the event, Mr S. Gopal, Senior Vice-President, MMA and Deputy Managing Director of Sanmar Chemicals Ltd, said, "The convention is a platform for thought leaders in different industries to speak on diverse aspects from where we are in terms of world benchmarks to how to surge ahead by overcoming shortfalls and setting new standards to attain a global leadership position."

According to Major S. Lakshmanan, Executive Director, MMA, the event is expected to be attended by over 800 delegates from across the country and "predominantly from the South".

Talking on the sidelines of the media conference, Mr Gopal said today, even traditional small industrial units in the country are growing in stature and are prepared to invest in good technology. "Now, most of these small industries are open to adopting good technology, management practices and manufacturing quality products by any global standards," he said.

The annual convention is scheduled to be addressed by management professionals from various industries including eminent leaders such as Mr K.V. Kamath, Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank; Mr R. Seshasayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland; Mr M.M. Singh, Executive Director, Maruti Udyog; and Dato' Vijay Eswaran, Group Managing Director, QI Ltd of Hong Kong.
